ABOUT ArtsWells FESTIVAL
Over 4 days, 5 stages outdoor and indoor, in Wells and Barkerville, ArtsWells is multidisciplinary festival featuring over 40 musical acts from across Canada (but mostly from BC), the 8th International One Minute Play Festival (where all are welcome to perform a play in one minute for cash prizes...there is also a category for the one minute excuse as to why you did not write a one minute play), 2 days full of approximately 30 workshops ranging from songwriting to bellydancing to djembe drumming, dance performances, a visual ArtWalk around the town, puppet shows, face painting and discounts to local attractions like Barkerville Historic Town (which is just 8 km down the road), and artisans selling their wares. We also have a number of musicians from the festival who perform in Barkerville.

One of the great things about the festival is that artists love being a part of it and have spread the word to their friends. We have had an overwhelming response from artists who would like to take part this year. I think they enjoy the hospitality and the ability to meet other artists from across the country in the nice relaxed and unique setting of Wells. Volunteers are often the first introduction to the festival, ArtsWells looks for enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic volunteers to help run 4 days of ongoing entertainment. The historic aspect is also a big draw as many have heard about Barkerville or the Cariboo gold rush, but few had had the opportunity to visit the area. Festival goers also love the intimate setting of Wells and the ability to see performers that would otherwise not travel up to the region. Of course we also feature a healthy dose of regional talent as there are a great number of artists in the area.

Visitors to Wells should be prepared for all kinds of weather from sunny and hot, to windy, cool, and rainy. At 1200 meters, you’ll find our clean, crisp mountain air invigorating and will want to take advantage of the surrounding nature and adventure (hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, gold-panning).

Volunteers Positions are still available for the 2007 ArtsWells Festival!
(Volunteers get Free Camping, Festival Pass and food for the weekend)
